The company was established to develop, build and manage a fleet of chemical/oil tankers – including all commercial activities linked to the shipping industry.

Chemical/oil tankers in the size range from 10,500 dwt and 10,673 msup3/sup till 37,850 dwt and 45,896 msup3/sup (Total cargo capacity 98%). Current vessels have been designed by RIGEL together with the renowned shipyards MTW in Wismar, the Gdynia shipyard in Poland and the Jinling shipyard in China. Furthermore RIGEL has signed several newbuilding contracts with different Korean Shipbuilders. 18 additional units are going to be integrated into the fleet until end of 2010.

Each vessel is a German limited partnership (Kommanditgesellschaft). RIGEL Schiffahrtsbr /GmbH amp; Co. KG controls the individual limited partnerships and manages the fleet. Exclusive chartering has been outsourced and is managed by Oceanwide Shipping amp; Chartering GmbH, also situated in Bremen.

It is the objective of RIGEL Schiffahrts GmbH amp; Co. KG to offer and maintain a fleet of highly sophisticated, completely double hulled and ice-strengthened chemical/oil tankers to meet the highest present and future technological, safety, environmental and commercial standards of their potential partners.
